| Direct-Vent Fireplaces are a high-efficiency heating unit
equivalent to having another furnace. Air for combustion is drawn from
outside your home via a special exhaust. The heat produced is then radiated
back into your home through a special heat exchange system. Some
Direct-Vents are capable of efficiencies over 90% and because of their
designs can be vented in many untraditional ways including straight through
a wall (click on the picture to the right). In a traditional fireplace
system (B-vent) air within your home which has already been heated is drawn
into the unit for combustion and then exhausted up a flue. Traditional
Fireplace units rarely achieve efficiencies over 50%. Direct-Vents come in a variety of styles, sizes, BTU ranges, and log configurations. They can be set-up to use blowers, remote controls, and thermostats. |
